Influenced by artists such as Qin Feng and Kazuo Shiraga, my practice follows the conceptual ideas of abstract expressionism and surrealism. It’s entirely instinctive and uses a thick acrylic mixture, creating gestural, textured abstraction. Formerly a figurative painter in oils, I now paint in acrylic using any tool I can find in my studio. Before painting, I assemble, stretch and prime the piece myself. What you see on the canvas is an honest portrayal of me working things out; not knowing what direction to head in, in any respect, but turning up to the studio and painting anyway. |
