AhzunJul 13 - Aug 29, 2021 The Old Bank Vault is proud to present ‘Ahzun’ by Layla Andrews. Deriving its name from a poignant mispronunciation of the word ‘our’s’, ‘Ahzun’ refers to the moment her nan and grandfather first lovingly stared at their new, and first, home in England after he moved from the Island of St. Helena. At the heart of ‘Ahzun’ beats a rich cultural tale explored through the faint pulses of memory Layla projects into abstraction. Drawing on her family’s origins from the tropical and volcanic island of St. Helena, she deconstructs the influence of Western music and culture that has spread throughout this small land.
Heroes & VillainsMay 11 - Jun 13, 2021 The Old Bank Vault is proud to present ‘Heroes & Villains’ by David Studwell. The series of works on show explore the darker side of fame, nostalgia and Americana-police mug shots of well-known stars showing them at their most vulnerable, or at their most defiant. Private moments of icons at screen tests or during reflection become graphically public, produced in bold and vivid colours. Studwell’s work also tracks the legacy of photography, technology, and photographers in the 20th century.
PsychomachiaApr 13 - May 9, 2021 The Old Bank Vault is proud to present Alban Laurent’s debut art exhibition ‘Psychomachia’.
As the first signs of isolation and depression begin to reveal themselves to Alban Laurent, he picks up a pen and sheet of paper and begins to doodle. The days roll into weeks and as quickly into months, Laurent finds himself drowning in empty bottles of Chinese ink and off cuts of paper. A body of work quickly becoming exhibition worthy with the working title ‘The 7 Deadly Sins’ emerges.
